Chapter Five: Night Training

“ Wake up!” hissed a voice. Bramble opened his tired eyes. He saw Ashtail outside the tent. Bramble walked to the tent flap- trying not to step on apprentices.
“ We are going for training with some other apprentices,” explained Ashtail. It was still dark outside. Bramble and Ashtail walked along the camp. They entered the forest where three apprentices were waiting. Bramble identified one easily, Sky, the cat he fought from before. Sky rolled her eyes once.  Bramble saw two wolves standing next to each other.

“Ok, Sky and Bramble, you two are going to fight in the dark. You can use claws,” explained a fox whom he saw with Ashtail when he arrived in The Rebels camp. “ Stand your guard. The first one to give up, loses.  Also, don’t inflict any major damages,” whispered Ashtail. Bramble nodded.
“ Go!” exclaimed the fox. Sky darted to the left. Bramble went to chase after her, but she disappeared. Bramble looked around trying to find her.
“Come on!” he whispered to himself. He then spotted a tree. Bramble unsheathed his claws and climbed the tree. He went to the top of the tree where the moonlight glowed. Bramble felt like staying there, but he had to look out. He scouted below him and saw a ripple in a lake nearby. Bramble suddenly jumped out of the tree and landed in the water.

Bramble held his breath. Suddenly, he spotted Sky swimming to the right. Bramble swam to the bottom of the lake, so he could attack Sky by surprise. Sky seemed not to notice Bramble. Then Bramble slowly swam up, and he clawed Sky in the belly. She grabbed Bramble’s paw and threw him out of the lake. He landed on his back, and he gasped for air. Sky then emerged from the lake. She clawed his belly. Bramble yelped in pain and kicked her with his back paws. He got up and clawed her in the shoulder. Bramble slammed into her side, knocking her over. He pinned her on the wet ground.
“ I give up!” yelled Sky. Bramble got off her and she snorted.
“ You win! Congratulations!” said Sky sarcastically. Bramble turned away and walked back to his mentor. “Not bad!” said Bramble’s mentor, patting him on the back. Bramble grumbled, “ What is up with her?” “Well the Shadow Mountain Deputy killed her brothers and her dad. She was training to be a healer, but when she heard the news she changed to be a warrior to get vengeance,” explained Ashtail. “Oh,” replied Bramble.

"I don’t blame her. My parent died and I ran to the rebels. Firetail was willing to be my new dad even though he was a tiger and I was a wolf,” added Ashtail. He paused and they walked back to the apprentice den to go to sleep. Bramble woke up ( again). All of the apprentices were gone except for Sky. Sky was muttering to herself. Bramble stretched and yawned. “Alright, I admit it, you did good,” said Sky. She looked at him with sky blue eyes.

“Thanks,” said Bramble. The she cat stood up. “ Sorry for being a mouse brain to you-it is just that I really don’t like losing, so sorry if I made you mad,” explained Sky. Bramble nodded,” It’s ok with me!”
“Can I come with you and your friends? I don’t have any. Also today we have no training and tomorrow too,” said Sky. Bramble nodded. Sky smiled and walked with him to Roxy and Kollin.
“Lets go hunt in the forest!” exclaimed Bramble. They all walked in the forest.

Author’s Note: Sky is gonna be one of the main characters by the way.  Also I am going to make a Character Page soon. Stay tuned.

Chapter Four: Battle Training

The apprentices awoke when it was sunrise. They assembled with their mentors, and went into the dark forest. Bramble followed Ashtail as he gave a tour of the camp. They finally started to train.

“Do you know how to unsheathe your claws, yet?” asked Ashtail. Bramble shook his head.  Ashtail showed him how to do it, after many tries he succeeded. Ashtail showed him moves like claw and bite. Bramble felt bad for Ashtail because Bramble had to do the moves on him. Ashtail finished teaching the basics to him. “It is lunch now, follow me,” said Ashtail, jerking his head. They walked past some hills and a cliff to the lunch area. Roxy and Thrash were the only ones there at the moment. Thrash and Ashtail started talking. Ashtail would laugh at some of Thrash’s jokes as he bit into his deer leg.

“How is training?” asked Bramble, breaking the silence between him and Roxy. She looked up and snorted, “ It was fine, I learned some new moves.” Bramble and Roxy then talked about fighting moves and cool techniques( this surprised him because Roxy was mean all the time ). Bramble looked down from the cliff and saw a group of apprentices walking back to the hills. Kollin was there so Roxy and Bramble joined the group of apprentices. “What is this?” asked Roxy, sneering.
"It is battle training. It is basically a competition of who is the best fighter out of the apprentices,” answered another apprentice.

The apprentice jerked his head to a female cat with pale white fur and sparkling sky blue eyes ( must have been Aurora’s kit ) “That is Sky. She is the champion of battle training for an entire week!” exclaimed the apprentice. They finally reached a flat area in the forest. There were circles, Bramble assumed it was where each animal stood before they fought. Sky and the apprentice walked to the circles and they stood in a circle.

“ No claws and no fangs, fight now!” yelled an apprentice standing in the middle of them. Sky did not hesitate for a second. She jumped up and kicked the apprentice in the back- making him fall to the ground. Sky then sat on him. “Sky is the winner! Bramble come up,” exclaimed the apprentice or judge. He was next to battle her? Bramble wobbled his way to the circle. Sky snorted slightly and got in a crouching position. “ No claws and no fangs, fight now!” exclaimed the apprentice.
Sky jumped in the air and tackled him to the floor. Bramble leapt up throwing Sky off him. Some of the apprentices clapped a bit.

“Sky will beat him anyway,” Bramble heard one of the apprentices whisper to another.
Sky shook off some dust on her pelt and charged at him. She body slammed him into a tree. Sky backed away and laughed a bit. Suddenly, a branch fell on her back. She fell to the ground, and Bramble stood on her. The apprentices applauded and the judge even looked happy.
“ Victory to Bramble!” exclaimed the crowd. The apprentices soon went back to their den for the night.

Sky sat by Bramble, she looked like she was mad at him. Roxy kept chatting to an older apprentice about training. Kollin was trying to get the attention of another apprentic. Bramble felt tired, so he rested his eyes and fell asleep.

Author's Note: So this is Bramble's first day of training! I added a music list because it is cool!

                                     Chapter Three

                                                            Bramble

Koi landed on a patch of grass after the big bird dropped him. He got up and saw a fox and a wolf standing over him. He then saw a familiar bird with a yellow beak, misty grey eyes, and white and grey feathers. Koi realized it was the bird he was talking to earlier. The fox whispered something to the wolf, and then the fox ran south. Two animals behind him seized him by his legs and pulled him in the same direction the fox went.

Koi entered a tent which smelled like flowers.  He sat on a soft object. An elder looking tiger stared at him with sharp eyes. The tiger jerked his head at a pile of prey, “ Eat,” insisted the tiger. Koi grabbed a mouse and chewed on it. “Windfeather protected you from those animals right?” questioned the tiger. Koi nodded realizing Windfeather was the bird from before. The tiger gave a satisfied smile. “ I’m Firetail by the way, leader of the rebels,” the tiger said with kindness, “ And your name is Bramble.” Koi looked at the tiger with confusion, Koi was not Bramble. “ Oh right you have your River tribe name,” said Firetail, interrupting Koi’s thoughts. Firetail padded to the food pile and grabbed a deer leg. He started chewing on it and after he finished he put the bones in a nest.

“Your mother was part of the rebels. She was even born here,” started the tiger, “ She was my apprentice, and she was a very nice and kind young apprentice. After a while, she became a warrior and  fought for the rebels.   She then had a kit, which is you, and your mom named you Bramble,” explained the elder tiger. Koi tried not to cry, because his mother had died.
“So then my mom moved to River Tribe for no reason.  She and the leader became mates, and Stream is my sister,” muttered Koi, finishing the tiger’s story. “ So your name is Bramble,” concluded the tiger. Firetail jerked his head to the flap of the tent and they both walked out.

“Gathering!” roared Firetail. Animals came out from trees and hills. Koi, or now Bramble, walked to the top of a rock. Bramble looked and saw Roxy, Stream, and Kollin standing there awkwardly.“ Four new trainers have been brought here,” started Firetail, “ They are here because the Shadow Mountain warriors are after them,” added Firetail. After he said that, the whole crowd of animals from below started whispering about it. Only three animals didn’t whisper and they were Windfeather, the wolf he first saw after the bird dropped him in the patch of grass, and a fox which was with the wolf from before.  The whispers died down, and Firetail continued, “ It is my priority to keep them safe so they will be apprentices here.  We will need mentors,” said Firetail. The tiger scanned the crowd and looked back at Roxy.

“Thrash, you will mentor Roxy here,” said the elder tiger. A wolf with a dark coat of fur and red eyes walked up to where Firetail was standing. He seemed serious, but Koi could also see he was happy. “Thrash is an old warrior and he needs an apprentice.  He will be a perfect mentor for Roxy,” said Firetail. Roxy seemed confused and happy. Thrash stood next to Roxy. Firetail scanned the crowd again. “ Windfeather, I think you will be a perfect mentor for Stream,” Firetail said. Windfeather smirked and flew next to Stream. Firetail scanned the crowd again then looked at Kollin. “ Aurora I think you will be a great mentor for Kollin,” Firetail continued. Aurora was a cat with pale white fur and sparkling, sky blue eyes. She walked up to the rock with pride and a mysterious look on her face. She stood next to Kollin. He would have cracked a joke, but he kept quiet.

Without looking in the crowd, Firetail finally chose the last mentor,( Koi ) Bramble’s mentor.
“Ashtail would be the best mentor for Koi, or now Bramble.  My son is an experienced warrior and he hasn’t had any apprentices yet. Bramble is his apprentice now,” finished Firetail.
Ashtail ( the wolf with the fox from before ) walked next to Bramble. “We are done with the ceremony now,” finished Firetail. The crowd erupted with cheers and chanted each of the new apprentice’s names. The crowd quickly dispersed. Their mentors guided the four to the apprentice den, while they went to the warriors' den. Bramble could hear the warriors congratulating the new mentors. “This always happens,” muttered an apprentice who was trying to sleep,” The warriors won’t shut up.”  Bramble then fell asleep to a song the warriors were singing.

Bramble woke up to the sound of a twig snap. He looked around. All of the apprentices were snoring, and some drooling. Bramble decided to go outside to investigate. Two silhouettes were walking out of the forest. “ Lets hope no one notices us,” muttered one of the silhouettes. Bramble raced to them, “ Roxy? Kollin? What are you doing out here?” They both turned and looked at Bramble. “ What does it look like Koi?” hissed Roxy. “It’s Bramble by the way,” corrected Bramble.  Roxy sighed, “ Look this is scary. The tiger knew my name, and I didn’t even tell it to him.”  “Me too and also Stream, so lets go Roxy,” said Kollin, giving Roxy a stare.  “I will kill you later Kollin, but seriously we have to go!” said Roxy, raising her voice.

Bramble cringed at how high Roxy’s voice was, but he resisted, “ Look this might not be that bad. I mean, didn’t he mention that some animals are trying to kill us!” said Bramble.
“The tribes are safer than here,” replied Roxy.  Kollin nodded in agreement, “ I agree with my one true love.” And then Kollin started teasing her by making smooching noises. Roxy looked like she was going to kill Kollin. “Fine,” she grumbled. Bramble was going to gloat, but he knew Roxy would break his arm.  They then padded back to the apprentice den.

Author’s Note: So if you guys are still confused Koi changed his name back to Bramble and do you know where Stream is?

                                                              Chapter Two

                                                          Meeting the Rebels

Koi was being carried by the river. He gasped for air a few times. Koi wished he could swim well, but he couldn’t. Then suddenly he was pulled under water. He tried to breathe but he couldn’t. Koi looked below him, but there saw nothing pulling him. Koi just sat there and stared down. He finally realized he had to get up and began swimming for the surface. Suddenly, he saw a red liquid winding past him like a snake. Then Koi realized it was blood, and he came to a stop on shore at a patch of grass. He went to see where it was coming from. Ice crunched under his paws as he sprinted forward. He suddenly stopped as he spotted three animals. He identified two of them, Roxy from Cliff tribe and Kollin from River tribe. Kollin was a cat like Koi, but unlike Koi, he would always mess up when making a trap.
Seeing Kollin made Koi think about his own unusual origin.  People wondered why Koi was a cat and his dad was a wolf.   It was strange, but he never asked. When Koi and his mother moved in to River tribe, Riverius liked her so much they were now mates. Sometimes Koi would think about what happened to his other dad, the one he never knew.

Roxy who was a fox was arrogant and annoying. He knew her from a trip to Cliff Tribe.  For some reason, Koi felt a strange sensation that his arm was broken after he met her. The other animal who was a bird was flying over them and two dead wolves Koi noticed for the first time. “Hello Koi how are things doing?” said Kollin. “What happened here?” asked a scared Koi as he stared at the two unconscious wolves. Roxy sighed and motioned at the bird, “I don’t know anything, the bird might.”
“ I don’t know anything either,” grumbled the bird. The four of them just sat there for a while. Koi finally realized he had to free his sister. He would have to get help for the two unconscious wolves after saving his sister. He started walking toward a pond. The liquid was silver and it seemed very thick. Koi got a jar from his bag  and put the jar in the pond. The silver liquid started flowing into the jar, and he retrieved it from the pond. Roxy snorted at him, “ Where are you going now Fishy?” Koi sighed, Roxy only called him that because his name sounded like the fish, coy. “I’m going to get my sister out of a trap I made,” said Koi walking to the river. I’m also going to report that two wolves are hurt.”

The bird then perched itself on a tree, gave Koi a glare, and said “ No you aren’t.  You are coming with me.  They want you.” Suddenly a scream pierced the air, a familiar sounding scream. “STREAM!” yelled Koi. Kollin then grabbed Koi’s paw and pulled him along as he jumped in the river. Kollin was a good swimmer even though he couldn’t fight or make traps well. In no time they made it back to the testing area. Three wolves and a jaguar wearing some type of hood stared up at Stream, who was holding onto the net. Out of no where, Roxy jumped out of a tree and swiped the jaguar in the eye, leaving a nasty scar. The scarred jaguar clutched his eye and tripped. He landed on the bed of spears from the trap. Koi opened the jar and poured the silver liquid on the spears and loosened all of the spikes. Roxy grabbed one for a battle weapon.

The bird then swooped down, grabbed another spear, and threw it at one of the wolves. The shot was lethal and the wolf died immediately. Soon the battle was over.  Stream was lowered from the tree.  Without anyone saying anything, a bunch of large birds swooped down and grabbed them. They were being taken somewhere.
Author’s Note: I am now doing the Author’s note!!! Cool battle right? Where do you think Koi will be taken? Also Kollin is Greatshot's character, so if you are new make a character now!!

                                                               Chapter One
                                                                Trap Class

Koi listened to his instructor drone on and on about the properties of traps and tricks. Sure, being the son of Riverius, the tribe leader, was good, but not when he had to be called out by everyone and challenged all of the time. He liked his class though. Every animal in River Tribe had to learn how to make traps. Why? It was the smarter way to do things. Once he finished learning about traps, he would have to be graded on a test. Tomorrow was his trap-making skills test to see if he was ready to graduate. Sure, like all the young wolves, he would've preferred to actually fight but traps were easy and a clever way beat your enemies. He agreed with the strategy. Koi loved to think during class and wonder.

“ Koi!” snapped his instructor pointing a stick at him. “ I asked you a question, what is one of the properties of a trap?” Koi sat up, he knew the answer to this question very well, “One is mechanics.” It was a question everyone knew because they were doing a final review in their books. The teacher looked at him then turned away to keep teaching the class. Then after a while class was over. “ Don’t forget tomorrow is the final testing. You will graduate if you make it,” the instructor reminded them. Koi nodded. Some students hugged the instructor goodbye for their final day of class.

Koi walked out of the building and walked out by the river to their house ( it was huge). Koi was happy because the storm season was gone, and it was all sunny. He felt rays warm his fur. His sister, Stream, raced up to him chanting excitedly, “ Hey Koi! Hey Koi! We are having the finals tomorrow! Isn't that great? We're gonna have to study-” Stream was Koi's adopted sister and a fox, not a wolf (more on this story later). Koi loved her just like a real sister and found her just as annoying. Stream kept on saying things about studying with her friends and asked him things he had known from the class. Koi interrupted her after a while and said, “Lets go try to make traps then.” Without Stream realizing it, Koi yanked his sister and dragged her to the testing area.

Stream got free once they got to the testing area, “We aren't supposed to be here!” yelled Stream. Koi knew he was not supposed to be there. After all, he did have a medal in class for the most attentive listener. Then that triggered a new set of thoughts like how Cliff Tribe called them--
“Fine we can do it,” Stream interrupted his thoughts. It was weird because he never said anything back to her. They decided Koi should go first. He knew how to make traps that can never be predicted. After a while he finished all of the gears and nets. He was done with his trap. He asked Stream go after him and he waited. The trick was he used the principle of reflection so that when Stream saw him, it was only his reflection and the trap would catch her.

After a while he heard a spring noise and Stream screamed. Koi raced to the trap and she was caught-- her legs trapped in the net and her arms behind her so she couldn't get out. Stream mostly didn't like what was at the bottom. Spears were pointing above the net so if the net broke the person trapped would be impaled. ”You never told me their were going to be spikes!!! Also the net is on a tree  branch which is about to break! Do you want to kill me?” Stream yelled.
Koi sighed, “ It was practice for the trap. Besides, I was gonna remove the spears just wait.” Koi started picking up the block of spears. Uh, oh. He forgot that he had sealed them so they can never be removed. The only thing to get them out was a special liquid from across the river.

“Dad isn't going to my ceremony because he has to go on patrol with Cliff Tribe,” complained Stream after she heard the bad news about the spears being stuck.“ Dad has to do patrol because the other wolves are scared and he wants to show them everything is fine,” replied Koi.
“Oh,” replied Stream. Koi glanced at the river. “I'm going to get the liquid. You stay here and if it starts breaking lean on your back. You will be able to flip away from the spears.” Stream nodded and started leaning back and Koi swam in the river to where he could find the liquid.

Prologue

                                                     Prologue

“ If you hadn't come on the search team I think we wouldn’t have lost that pup,” said a wolf pointing at a taller wolf with mist blue fur and deep green eyes. “ I think that you are a clumsy fool who was holding the pup and dropped it,” snapped the mist blue wolf.  River Tribe is a place no one fights; they only build traps and let the traps do the work for them. The mist blue wolf was about to retort when a wolf with dark fur and a scar on one eye approached.  It’s other eye was grey and looked like it was going to fall out. The black wolf looked at the other wolves and said, “Go report back to the leader.  He will give you your next assignment.”

The wolves marched in a line toward a high cliff. Only the mist blue wolf and the wolf with a scar on his eye stayed behind.  The wolf with a scar pointed at the stormy sky as wind whipped around them and snow got in the two wolves’ fur.  “I am expecting your tribe needs you, Riverius,” said the wolf with a scar to the mist blue wolf. “ Yes, they do.  I will be on patrol next moon,” Riverius replied. The wolf with the scar waved good bye and walked toward the cliff while Riverius walked to a large river.

Meanwhile, two wolves were doing a patrol in the snowstorm. “ I can’t wait until we finish our patrol.  It is freezing,” said one wolf. The other wolf chuckled, “ If I become the leader of the Cliff Tribe I would do no patrols and go to war with River Tribe.  Their leader is so lame.” The  other wolf chuckled. “Tell me about it.” Then out of no where, a wolf tackled them. The two wolves tried to escape the attacking wolf but it was too late. The wolf unsheathed his claws and clawed their necks. He threw one to a rock and the other toward a tree, They were both knocked unconscious. Then a larger wolf came behind him. “ Hide them.  The next patrol comes tomorrow evening,” the other wolf nodded and carried them both somewhere.
